A6 is a group of interested peers with the sole purpose of improving the Baton Rouge area.

A6 began as Austin 6 in 2003, on a trip hosted by the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce,
to see why Austin had been so progressive and Baton Rouge had been so stagnant. It
was noted that Austin had “speed and attitude” for progressive ideas and projects.
On that trip, a small group decided it was good to push our community forward for
progress and creativity without tolerating politics, parochialism or incumbency.
The message resonated to attract a current membership of over 2,500 members. A6 is

The A6 6 Core Principles:
1) Push Forward. We value positive action towards positive outcomes.
2) No Looking Back. It is the future, not the past that energizes us.
3) No BS. We can’t think of a better way to say it. In order to move the community forward, we think it is important to be direct and straightforward in our communication with each other. Further, we expect the same from the community. Otherwise, it doesn’t work.
4) Inclusive. A6 is very inclusive because it’s more of an attitude than anything else. To be effective, we must be white and black, young and old, male and female, and as diverse as we can be proactively. There is no membership. Please participate as much or as little as you like.
5) No Outside Agendas. A6 is made up solely of individuals. We welcome individuals, like us, who desire to grow our region. If you bring your professional agenda from an organization, well, that's not what we seek. We seek you only. No one represents anything beyond that. If a Project arises that you are professionally connected to, you may participate fully as a resource, but you may not be a project leader for that issue/opportunity. Feel free to be a project leader for an issue/opportunity you are not directly connected to.
6) Beginning & End. A6 is built around the belief that every project has a beginning and an end. Our focus is to involve people for an appropriate amount of time, offer direction and focus, and close the project. If the need arises again, it will be a new project, but we offer focused energy to issues and opportunities, not to carry them.
